The Diocese of Madison is developing a partnership with the Diocese of Navrongo-Bolgatanga in Ghana through the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Global Solidarity Partnership Program. The Global Solidarity Partnership aims
to help the Diocese of Madison respond to this call of solidarity by providing opportunities to:
- Deepen faith and knowledge of the universality of the Catholic Church.
- Strengthen understanding of Catholic social teaching and the needs of developing nations and respond through action.
From Jan. 4-Jan. 14, 2004 a group of 11 people from the Diocese of Madison and one person from Catholic Relief Services (CRS) from Baltimore visited the Diocese of Navrongo-Bolgatanga in Ghana. The focus of this delegation was to form connections between the Diocese of Navrongo-Bolgatanga and the Diocese of Madison, particularly in the area of education. Educators from the Diocese of Madison have developed curricular materials to help children and adults learn about the people of Navrongo-Bolgatanga, and Catholic teaching on global solidarity. The Diocese of Madison is supporting a Catholic Relief Services soybean project that strives to improve food security in northern Ghana. The soybean can be used as food and as a cash crop. One of the project’s aims is to expand soybean production in Ghana by providing a donkey and plough to women farmers. Because traditional farm implements limit soybean production, this project provides a donkey, plough, cart, harness, seed, and training to help women farmers increase food production. If 65 women become direct beneficiaries of this project, an estimated 1,500 people will benefit indirectly.

Pictured below is a “Pin the Dollar on the Donkey” display at St. Bernard Parish, Watertown. Parishioners and students have responded enthusiastically, resulting in the purchase of over 40 donkeys at $95
