Overview of the Middle School Curriculum Minimize

Grade 6:  Following Christ

In the sixth grade, students will learn about their Christian life of love, the law of God, their human fraility in following that law, and the means that God gives them to follow His law, especially through the graces received from the Mass. All of the Sacraments are presented, with a special emphasis given to the Sacrament of the Eucharist. Throughout their study, students will also develop their understanding of the dignity of the human person. They will learn to live out their faith by forming a moral conscience and by imitating the life of Jesus. Special emphasis is given to the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. Finally, the students will develop a prayer life that includes particpation in the Mass, traditional Catholic prayers and devotions, as well as spontaneous prayer.

Grade 7:  The Life of Grace

In the seventh grade, students will learn about God's loving gift of revelation through creation, the prophets, the Incarnation, and the Church. Special emphasis is given to the transmission of grace through the seven Sacraments and the importance of grace in developing the virtues. Throughout their study, students will also develop their understanding of the dignity of the human person. They will learn to live out their faith by forming a moral conscience and by imitating the life of Jesus. Finally, the students will develop a prayer life that includes participation in the Mass, traditional Catholic prayers and devotions, as well as spontaneous prayer.

Grade 8:  Our Life in the Church

In the eighth grade, students will learn about the history of the Church (its founding by Christ, its birth and life in the Holy Spirit, its attributes, the teachings of the Church Fathers, and the witness of the martyrs and saints), as well as the structure and hierarchy of the Church. Students will come to know and love the Church as Christ’s Mystical Body, to better understand the nature of their life in the Church, and to respond to the teaching of the Magisterium as the sure voice of Jesus, strengthening their lives in the Church and leading them to discern their specific vocations. Finally, the students will develop a prayer life that includes participation in the Mass, traditional Catholic prayers and devotions, as well as spontaneous prayer.
