St. Thomas Aquinas is now offering Scrip gift cards! Scrip gift cards work just like cash at hundreds of national and local retailers. Each scrip gift card purchase earns a rebate of 2% to 17% for the parish. By shopping with scrip for everyday purchases like food, clothing, electronics, gasoline, or entertainment you can support the parish without spending any more than you already do.
You can order Scrip every weekend for pick-up the following weekend Orders and payments to the parish are due by noon Sunday. Cards are also available for immediate purchase after Mass on the weekend.
When people hear about Scrip, many ask, “What’s the catch?” The catch—if there is one—is that families need to plan ahead a little and do their normal shopping with gift cards. But when you do plan ahead you will help the parish pay down our mortgage. So start planning! Here are the details:
What Is Scrip?
Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”. When you purchase scrip, you’re purchasing negotiable gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash. You can use scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials, and with every purchase, you earn revenue for our parish. Scrip cards are available for hundreds of merchants.
How Scrip Generates Revenue for Our Parish
The Great Lakes Scrip Center acts on behalf of churches, schools and other non-profits to purchase large amounts of scrip from grocery stores, department stores, and other retailers. Because the scrip is purchased with cash up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial discount. The parish buys the scrip from Great Lakes Scrip Center at a discount, and re-sells it to families like yours for full face value. The discount—from 2 to 15 percent or more—is our parish revenue.
How Do We Order Our Scrip Gift Cards?
Fill out a Scrip order form (available in the Gathering Area after Mass or by clicking the link at left). For merchants who are not on our order form, click either the alphabetical or category list links at left for a full listing. Turn in your completed order form and prepayment at the table in the Gathering Area or to the parish office by the Sunday before the pick-up weekend. Please make checks payable to St. Thomas Aquinas. Orders received later will be held for the next parish order. A selection of the most popular cards are available for immediate purchase on weekends. When Will We Get Our Cards?
Cards will be available for pick-up after all Masses the following weekend. If you cannot pick up your cards at that time, they will be held for the next weekend.
