One a Week Club Blood Drive
Purpose: Members of the parish donate at least 52 units of blood per year for use by patients in area and regional hospitals.
Description: Donations of blood or platelets can be made at each of the American Red Cross blood centers. Before donating blood, a brief physical assessment is given with heart rate, temperature, blood pressure, hematocrit test along with a confidential assessment of health risks. The questionnaire is done to ensure a completely safe blood supply. After the initial physical assessment, the injection site is prepared with careful iseptic techniques. One pint of blood is taken. The entire process may take approximately one hour, with actual blood donation being about ten minutes or less. After the donation, the donor is requested to rest in the refreshment area to ensure no adverse effects are seen. The donor signs the One-A-Week book that is located in the refreshment area with his/her name, date and organization (i.e. St. Thomas Aquinas Club 96).
