Christmas Food Baskets
Purpose: The goal of the Christmas food basket program is to provide residents of Wexford Village apartments and others in our parish neighborhood a basket of grocery staples to help them celebrate Christmas.
Description: Wexford Village conducts a sign-up of residents who would like to receive a basket of food just prior to Christmas. Beginning at Thanksgiving parishioners bring their nonperishable food items each Sunday to the collection boxes in the gathering area. These items are accumulated until two weeks prior to Christmas. At that time, over 100 volunteers of all ages sort the food items in various categories and pack these items into baskets. Another group of volunteer parishioners (about 25 to 30) delivers the food to the families who signed–up at Wexford Village apartments, as well as other people in need. Last year 123 baskets were delivered meeting the needs of 384 grateful recipients. Also an extra 900 lbs of food was donated to Middleton Outreach Ministry.
Needs:
- Food items, toiletries, cleaning products donations.
- Volunteers to sort donated items and pack and deliver baskets.
Food Pantry Support
Purpose: The goal of the Food Pantry Support program is to help stock the food pantries either at Wexford Village apartments or at St. Vincent de Paul.
Description: On the third Sunday of each month, parishioners donate nonperishable food items, which are placed in the gathering area. Alternating each month, these food items are either delivered by parishioners to Wexford Village apartments or picked up by St. Vincent de Paul. When the food items are delivered to Wexford Village apartments, they are placed in the food pantry, for distribution to apartment residents by volunteers at the apartment community center.
Needs: Nonperishable foods
