The purpose of the Waspam Mission is to reach out to the people who live along the Rio Coco River in the northeast part of Nicaragua by assisting the parish community of St. Rafael in Waspam. We work in conjunction with Bishop Paul Schmits who is in charge of the Vicariate of Bluefields, Nicaragua, for the people of the Rio Coco parish center in Waspam, Nicaragua.
Our donations have provided long-term funding for development projects, such as the addition of classrooms at the grade school and middle school and a large boat, ”Kupia Kumi,” that transports lay ministers from the Rio Coco area to Waspam for training. Support is sent twice a year. The funds have also been used to buy school books, Bibles, and Catechisms.
