RESPITE

Purpose:  The acronym RESPITE expresses the purpose of the ministry - REnewal of both SPIrit and TEmporal.  Sensitive to the needs of families facing extensive care giving, this program is unique in that it encourages parish volunteeers to focus entirely on the aspect of ministry to the caregiver in their community.  Rest and relief from caregiving is what RESPITE is all about.  Volunteers do not do chores but become a "presence" in the home of a homebound indivdual so the caregiving family member can slip away for a few hours. 

NO NURSING SKILLS ARE REQUIRED!  Catholic Charities partners with parishes to create teams and provide training and on-going consultation. 

RESPITE TEAM MEMBER:

Caregiver: 

• A member of the RESPITE team will make a visit to your home to assess your needs. 
• You have the flexibility of when you want a team member to relieve you of your caregiving duties.
• Team members will stay 2 hours at a time, but you can schedule several team members back to back to have more time away.
