Parish Activities & Events

The following events are planned by a core group with the help of many parish volunteers. Areas that volunteers can help in are: chair or co-chair or mentor an event, planning, preparation, set-up, serving, clean-up, donating food, taking pictures, making phone calls or help where needed. Special requests for volunteers are made through bulletin announcements, sign-ups at mass, or during our Time and Talent Commitment weekend.

For more information on any of these ministries, events or organizations, please call the Parish Office at 831-6531 during the Parish Office hours, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to Noon and 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM or email: parish@stbmidd.org.

Activities

Sunday Morning Nursery Helper: On an occasional basis help in the nursery during the 9:00 or 11:00 AM weekend Mass.

Parish Hospitality Committee: Working together and helping out or coordinating Coffee Sundays and receptions for special events. Especially looking for an individual or two who are interested in being the head chair/chairs in coordinating and overseeing these events. The Parish Volunteer Coordinator will assist you for these events.

Funeral Luncheons: Volunteers prepare a salad, dessert for luncheons held in the parish center. The main meal is provided by a caterer.

Parish Center Kitchen Volunteer: Assist with the cleaning up of the kitchen after any major event (Spaghetti Dinner, etc.) approximately three hours, three times a year.

Occasional Helper: Help make phone calls, assemble mailings or stuff bulletins, take pictures at events, prepare a meal, organize an event or help as needed.

Meal Programs:
• St. Martin's: Third Monday of each month, volunteers from our parish prepare a hot, home-cooked meal at St. Bernard's and serve it at the Multicultural Center on the south side of Madison. Donated items include: vegetables, milk, butter, potatoes, bread, or money for the purchase of meat and non-donated items. Volunteers can assist in preparing the meal, delivering or donating food items.

• Luke House: First Wednesday of the month, parishioners prepare, serve, and share in a family-style, noon meal. All are welcome. Monthly or occasional contributions of food, money or time are needed.

Middleton Outreach Ministry (MOM) Christmas Dinner: The dinner will not take place in 2011. For more ways to help out those in our community contact Middleton Outreach Ministry, (608) 836-7338.

Spaghetti Dinner: (Spaghetti Dinner Pictures) This annual event is held the second weekend in February and is the largest fundraiser done in the parish. Many volunteers are needed to help with the preparations during the week including set up, working the day of, and clean up. The planning committee welcomes parishioners interested in helping organize this event.

Soup and Stations: A Lenten meal is offered on a Wednesday evening during Lent. This light meal consists of homemade soups (chicken and vegetable), fruit and bread followed by the Living Stations of the Cross. Volunteers are needed for preparation, set up, serving and clean up of the event.

Rose Sale: Several volunteers are needed at each Mass to help sell roses at all the entrances to church after Masses on Mother’s Day weekend. This event is sponsored by the Human Needs Commission and all proceeds are given to the Wisconsin Right to Life program.

All Souls Day: At the morning Mass on All Souls Day we remember, by name, those whose funeral service was held at St. Bernard's. This tradition has come to us from the earliest days of the Church. The "Book of Remembrance", in which are inscribed the names of departed loved ones, is also available at this Mass. We continue this remembrance over coffee and rolls after Mass.

Events

God's Plan: This is your contribution or pledge commitment to St. Bernard Parish for financial support. At St. Bernard's our pledge drive is done once a year in November. It is a personal agreement between you and God. It is not a legally binding agreement, but your contribution or pledge is commitment to St. Bernard Parish for financial support. If interested, your contributions can be made by an electronic bank transfer. For more information, please call the Parish Office at 831-6531.

Parish Picnic: (2010 Parish Picnic) Our parish picnic is a social and fellowship event to thank our parishioners. Members of our sister parish, St. Francis in Milwaukee, are also invited to join us. The 11:00 AM Mass, picnic lunch and activities are held at Lakeview Park in September (weather permitting). In case of rain the festivities are held on the parish grounds. Food, games and entertainment are provided by the parish. Parish volunteers participate in the planning, preparation, set-up and clean-up for the day's festivities of the meal, games and entertainment.

Appreciation Dinner: (2010 Appreciation Dinner Pictures) This social/dinner has been celebrated by the parish for over 20 years as a special recognition and an expression of thanks to those parishioners who volunteer so many hours of their time helping in the parish by serving as: liturgical ministers, religious education teachers, council and commission members and pastoral ministers of service and outreach.
