Marie Lins and Michelle Nilsson will be leading small groups of Parish Catechetical Leaders through some of the workshops on Franciscan at Home. Please go here to register and we will coordinate dates and times from those who are interested.
One significant task of the diocesan Office of Evangelization and Catechesis is that of assisting parish catechetical leaders in their efforts. (The OEC also coordinates some diocesan-wide faith formation opportunities available to all people of the diocese). This page focuses on resources specifically pertinent to parish catechetical leaders.

The Office of Evangelization & Catechesis will be again offering many six-hour class sessions in both the Core Basic and the Advanced Curriculum at the BOCC for Seat of Wisdom Certification all throughout this year on Saturdays and for 2 weeks in June to assist our parish and school educational personnel in obtaining their required catechetical certification. Bishop Morlino has asked all of our parish catechetical leaders to encounter Jesus Christ by means of these classes, increasing our knowledge of His teaching and thus helping each of us become better witnesses and teachers of the Gospel.
All parish catechetical leaders hired before June 30, 2012 are to have completed the Basic (Core) Certification (50 credit hours) by June 30, 2015. All others are to have completed Basic Certification within 3 years of their hire date at any parish in the Diocese of Madison. The August / September courses are your primary opportunity in the coming 13 months to complete these requirements. The first four courses (Sacred Scripture, Creed, Sacraments, and Life in Christ) should be taken in sequential order while other courses may be taken at any time. All parish and school educational personnel are expected to complete a minimum of 18 credit hours per year as they work to complete their certification requirements. In subsequent years these basic courses are going to be less available due to lower demand.
To view the available courses, go to our Seat of Wisdom page, click on “Register for Available Courses” and “See Upcoming Classes.” You will need to login or create new account in order to register. To view testimonies of those who have attended the classes, click the link at “What are they saying about Seat of Wisdom?” More information on specific polices is available on the web site. If you have questions, contact the OEC at [email protected] or 608-821-3160.
